Commonly mistaken for its close relative, the verdel, you will find it in the Mediterranean and also in the Atlantic ocean. The island of Escombreras, in Cartagena, owes its name to the latin denomination for the mackerel: Scomber scombrus. It’s a blue fish, what means that it’s rich in ‘good’ fat, omega 3 fatty acids, that reduce cholesterol. We have mackerel in sunflower oil, mackerel in tomato and marinade mackerel.
